Clover Partners, L.P. is a Dallas, Texas based state registered investment adviser that manages hedge funds and investment vehicles focused on small-cap banks. Established in 2000, Clover Partners’ objective is to employ an intensive deep-value research process to produce a portfolio of high conviction ideas. Our goal is to generate high quality market-leading returns for our investors on a controls-based platform.

Michael C. Mewhinney

Michael C. Mewhinney

Mr. Mewhinney graduated from West Point and Harvard Business School. During his 45 year investment career, he worked as an institutional salesman for Goldman, Sachs & Co. and The First Boston Corporation, covering large institutional firms. At First Boston, he was head of equity sales for the Southwest U.S. and served on the firm’s Investment Policy Committee until he co-founded Barrow, Hanley, Mewhinney & Strauss in 1979. Mr. Mewhinney was a principal and equity portfolio manager for 21 years, helping the firm grow to $80 billion in assets until leaving to co-found Clover Partners in 1999.

Samuel S. Moore

Mr. Moore graduated from Austin College and received an MBA from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania. He worked in corporate finance at Texas Instruments before joining Goldman Sachs & Co. in 1968. During his 31 years at Goldman Sachs, Mr. Moore worked with both institutional and individual investors and was a vice president in the Investment Management Division until leaving to co-found Clover Partners in 1999. Mr. Moore is a past member of The Staubach Company’s Board of Directors and the Austin College Board of Trustees.

Mike Shafir

Mr. Shafir joined Clover Partners in September, 2012 and is responsible for generating investment ideas in both the general banking and MHC conversion sectors. Post MBA, Mr. Shafir joined Moors and Cabot as an associate covering the Northeast banking sector and in 2006 joined Sterne Agee & Leach as a Senior Analyst responsible for Northeast Banks and Thrifts. Mr. Shafir has extensive modeling expertise in both MHC and Standard Conversions, profitability projections for banking institutions, and mergers and acquisitions. During his tenure at Sterne Agee & Leach he was rated the number 2 overall stock picker for 2007 and 2008 as ranked by StarMine and the Financial Times. Mr. Shafir graduated from Brandeis University in 1998 and received an MBA from Rutgers Business School in 2004.
